Microsoft has rolled out update 26.2 for Dynamics 365 Business Central Online (2025 release wave 1), and while this update might seem incremental at first glance, there are a few gems worth paying attention to—especially for those of us working closely with customers, ISVs, or keeping environments stable.

Let me share what stood out for me.

First, the usual hotfixes are there. If you’re managing on-premises environments or hybrid setups, it’s always good to scan through those in case something quietly resolves an issue you’ve been living with. You can download the update files and check detailed fixes through Microsoft Support.

Feature-wise, 26.2 isn’t feature-heavy, but the few enhancements they’ve made are sharp and practical.

One of the key changes is in delegated administration. Microsoft is making it easier and more secure for partners to manage customer environments through delegated access. This is a big one for partners who manage multiple tenants and need consistent, compliant access.

There are also improvements in performance telemetry and diagnostics. I’ve always found it useful when Microsoft exposes more telemetry hooks—it helps us troubleshoot better and work smarter with support.

In addition to that, here are some of the newly released and preview features included in 26.2 that caught my eye:

  • Copilot and AI: Use AI resources for your Copilot extensions (Public Preview)
  • E-documents:
    • Automate embedded attachments in PEPPOL (GA)
    • Send e-documents via a service and email simultaneously (GA)
    • Use B2B Router as a service provider for e-documents (GA)
    • Use Continia as a service provider for e-documents (Public Preview)
  • Financial Management: Analyze subscription billing data with Power BI reports (GA)
  • Reporting and Data Analysis:
    • Add fields from related tables in analysis mode (GA)
    • Use enhanced analytics for manufacturing, projects, purchasing, and sales (GA)
    • Use enhanced Excel reports for sustainability (GA)
  • Sustainability Management: Use enhanced analytics for sustainability (GA)

The update includes a few additional enhancements and bug fixes behind the scenes that help with things like security, application stability, and environment update control. Nothing dramatic, but solid refinements.

For online users, the rollout happens automatically, and the usual email notification will let you know when it’s your turn. For on-prem, if you’re managing updates manually, make sure you’re on the right upgrade path and watch for obsolete object cleanups.

No new localization updates this time, which is fine. But I did notice that Microsoft is still nudging everyone toward enabling upcoming features that will become mandatory in version 27. If you’re like me and running extensions or custom apps, now’s the time to proactively test those features.

And if you haven’t yet watched the 2025 Release Wave 1 Launch Event, it’s still available on YouTube. It’s a good resource to visualize where BC is headed this year and what changes might impact us in wave 2.

To sum it up—this update won’t change your day-to-day dramatically, but it’s another building block toward the bigger picture Microsoft is crafting around partner access, support tooling, and secure extensibility. Subtle progress, but all in the right direction.

As always, if you’re implementing these updates or want to compare notes, feel free to reach out.
