Let me be honest—when I see version numbers like 26.1, I usually think “minor tweaks, nothing major.”
But this time? Microsoft rolled out a bunch of functional changes that genuinely make a difference. Especially if you’re working with e-docs, Copilot, or managing system updates across multiple environments. Here’s what I found worth sharing:
Hotfixes continue to roll in. If you need the detailed list or files for on-prem, head over to Microsoft Support.
One of the standouts for me is the ability to automate Copilot extension tests. If you’ve been experimenting with AL code and AI capabilities in BC, this will save you time and reduce headaches during deployment.
The e-document improvements are another big deal. We’ve now got better error handling (finally!), the option to send via both service and email, preview capabilities for incoming invoices, and even corrections for unposted purchase documents. Integrations with providers like Logiq and ExFlow just make this even more useful.
Sustainability updates added “Out of Scope” emission tracking and water/waste management, which feels timely given how more companies are getting serious about ESG data.
Web UI also got a subtle but important upgrade. You can now enable layout optimizations from Feature Management, and it really does help reduce clutter on wide screens.
For those managing updates, here’s the scoop:
- Online tenants: you’re either already on 26.1 or you’ve been notified to schedule it.
- On-prem: you need to be on version 25 before jumping to 26.1. Also, expect some cleanup—older, deprecated objects are removed.
Update flexibility is improving too. There’s now a 5-month window to manage major versions, and you’ll soon be able to select your target minor version in the admin center.
If you’re managing extensions or integrations, start paying attention to features that will become mandatory in version 27.0:
- Auto-save per field
- Multiple user warehouse posting
- Semantic list search
- G/L currency revaluation
- Server certificate validation
- 1099 reporting
- Package tracking
- Custom reminder texts
- Semantic metadata search
- Screen optimization tweaks
Finally, if you missed the Business Central 2025 Launch Event in April, go check it out on YouTube. Plenty of value-packed demos there.
This update shows that Microsoft isn’t just maintaining BC—they’re evolving it. And it’s clear that this release is laying groundwork for bigger things coming later this year.
If you’ve got feedback or want to share your own experiences with 26.1, I’d love to hear about it.
